Fuji X100 Day 1 – Preparation

Fresh off the FedEx truck and opened near immediately – the X100 has arrived. I’m very hopeful that this camera will become the camera that I will carry everywhere with me. The camera has a fresh 16gb SD card ready to go and right now, the battery is charging up to full.

While that’s happening, I wanted to give a shout-out to the excellent folks at Borrow Lenses for making this camera available for rent. I’m a big fan of the try-before-you-buy mentality, especially with camera bodies. If for whatever reason this camera doesn’t cut it for me, the rental goes back and I’m out ~$100 instead of $1200. It’s a big win. Borrow Lenses got some X100 inventory in stock about a month ago I think (not sure on exactly when) and I was able to make a reservation for this week shortly thereafter. You can do this too! I didn’t have to do anything special to get a hold of this camera.

As you can see, the camera is packed in the box very soundly around dense packing foam. Little to zero risk of damage. Inside the box for the base rental price are the camera, battery, camera strap, and charger. You supply the memory card, or you can rent the card from Borrow Lenses too (costs very little extra).

Now… it’s time to shoot (well, as soon as the battery charges ;) )! The next post will have some example images from the camera and some first thoughts.
